Well, as promised, here's what I've done so far. It all started out with buying a pair of run down old flatty V8s:
And an old car. In that case, I went for a 1928 (or 1929) Peugeot 201, that was in quite a bad shape (well, that doesn't apply for the young lady ):
Starting to work on the motor:

Taking apart the 201:
Trying on the Motor. Might fit, but it won't be easy:

Since most of the wood was donw for, and the previous owner thought it was cool to chop off half of the door frames, i decided to make a comletely new subframe for the body, but of 1,5mm steel.
Brackets for the door locks:

After the motor was taken apart, I had to build it all up again. So I quickly built a mounting stand and began working on the block. Here it is as I got it back from the machine shop, where it was rebored, honed and trued:
Getting ready for sand blasting:
In progress:
Ready for a new paint job:
New camshaft bearings:
All new valves, springs and retainers. The 8RT block allready has all 16 valve seats hardened, so I only had to grind and lapp them with the new valves:
A completely new set of pistons from Kolben Schmitt (who manufacured for Ford Köln, when they where still making the flathead V8 there), as well as the crankshaft and flywheel were added, along with the cam shaft:

I'm glad you like it! There's still a lot to come, I just have to do it step by step, for it'd be too much for just one post
So here we go:
"New" axles from a 1954 F100, just there to get an idea how it looks:
Door frame No 1 half done:
And second:
Stainless steel sheet metal, finishes with a brush and a drilling machine...
...to hold the gauges from a 1937 Austin Healy:
Electric starter allso needed a little work:
New gasket made:
Getting all together. A special goodie - Vintage Offenhauser heads and a new old stock carburettor!
New water pumps and belts:
Alternator from a soviet tractor, with adapted original pulley!
Fuel and oil lines, made from cupper tubing:
Rev counter, old from the 60s:
gearbox from a 50's fire truck:
Since I didn't like the vacuum advance on the ignition, I built my own electronic ignition with centrifugal advance:
Allso made a lighter and of course more narrow fan from aluminum, to fit the smaller 201 radiator. The Motor now has it's own little trolly to sit on and be pushed around:
And finally, the start up:

Further with the gearbox. It's out of an 50's oder 60's FK2500 firetruck and seems to be a copy of a Borg Warner T18:
Four speeds, first straight, 2-4 synchronised:
Ground down the edges on the chipped teeth of the first and reverse gears, to prevent further wear and tear:
Since the shaft sealing had very unusual measurements, I made an adaptor ring to use a stock part easily available:

Next to do would be the radiator. of course there was non to fit the Peugeot grill and provide the cooling power needed for the 4 litre Flathead. I asked a professional builder for the radiator net, which would have been about 300€ alone! Well, I'm not made of money, so I went along and ordered one from the USA, that had the right hight and three rows, for maximum efficiency. With all the shipping and taxes payed, it was about 200€, so at least 100€ saved.
All that was left to do, was to cut out the part I needed and build myself a new radiator. Well, easily said, but not done.
Starting out with that:
Way too big:
Chopped and upper retainer mocked up:
The remains:
Making the inlets:
Some welding done:
Close up on the bead. I can tell you, I was sweating with fear when I did that. One mistake and everything had been over:
Making a pair of brass bolts a little more neat:
Some parts fitted:
Well, yeah...
Going on with the lower part:
That one's done!
So another mock up, to get an idea, of what it might look like once:
Mounted the gearbox and the radiator to the motor:
Bows are from electrical installation pipe :

From now on it will go a little slower, we have reached the status quo here. All that was done in the past two years. Since my shop is ~30km away, I don't have the possibility, to work on the rod every day, mostly on weekends.
I tested the radiator for leaks today, and found a small one on top and one of the outlet pipes won't stop dribbling, but that shouldn't be too hard to fix. Other than that I didn't find any leaks, but will have to test it under water with pressurized air.
Oh, another thing: Does anyone have a picture that shows, how the grillshell of the 201 is mounted on the radiator? On the sides lower ends there are two little hooks. How do they fit on the stock radiator? So long, Andreas

I think I figured it out myself. It seems the hooks on the shell attach to springs and those pull down to mounts on the radiator... Well, we'll see how to do that.

A little update and some details:
Draintap:
Bracket for the cooler studs:
The old guarantee batch got on there, too
Lower brackets:
For rigidity and also to fix the grill and grill shell:
Grill got powder coated black and is mounted by means of ten screws:
The old emblems got a little cleaning action and found a new home on the grill:
That's how it looks:
And again with grill shell mounted:
Gorgeous emblem:
Now it has yet to be painted and the mounting pionts for the shell to be added. And that nice thermometer want's to be repaired...:
